John Vanderbeek, Field Agent, was born in Valentine, Nebraska, and graduated from Valentine High School in 1989. He went on to get his Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction, as well as an Educational Administrative Endorsement from the University of Nebraska, Kearney. Prior to his career with the Knights of Columbus, John worked as an English and Math teacher and basketball coach at both Horizon and Sunrise Middle Schools, in Kearney. He also served for three years as principal of Shelton High School. John is currently in his 9th year of field agent work with the Knights of Columbus.

John began working for the Knights as a member of the Pfeifer agency, and has since become a member of the Swanson Agency, since 2016. In his tenure with the Swanson Agency, he has earned Agent of the Year honors, as well as membership in MDRT in 2018. MDRT is an industry-wide organization and represents the top 2% of financial professionals in the industry worldwide. He has also received his FIC and FICF designations from the Fraternal Insurance Counselors Association.

John and his wife, Crystal are parents of four children: Anthony, Joseph, Lindsay, and Daniel. Having resided in Kearney for nearly 15 years, the Vanderbeeks are active in the local and broader Catholic community. A mass cantor at St. James, John has also served for three years on both the Diocesan Pastoral Council for the Diocese of Grand Island, and the Nebraska Catholic Conference. Crystal opened Little Fish Preschool, at St. James Parish, in 2012, and has since served as head teacher and director of the school. John is a member of St. James council 1728 and has been a member of the Knights for more than twenty years.
